About CCPLab
As a CAP-accredited laboratory, Capital Choice Pathology Laboratory (CCPLab) offers full pathology production services to client hospitals, a full menu of histochemical and immunohistochemical stains, outreach biopsy and surgery center support, comprehensive breast cancer reporting including fluorescence in-situ hybridization, and infectious disease molecular testing. Established in 1962 as a gynecologic cytology laboratory known as Cytology Services of Maryland, our initial focus was on cervical cytology to support gynecology and primary care offices. Today, CCPLab is proud to continue and expand upon our long tradition of providing state-of-the-art diagnostic support for clinicians dedicated to the finest patient care in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and beyond.

Michael LaFriniere, HT, ASCP
Executive Director
Michael joined CCPLab in 2005 and has over 30 years of pathology laboratory experience, which includes American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification. His 25+ years of management expertise include LEAN processes in pathology administration, histopathology, cytotechnology, gross prosecting, autopsy, electron microscopy, immunohistochemistry, histochemical pathology, molecular pathology, chemical recycling, speech recognition, equipment design and digital pathology. He has additional expertise in strategic and business management of pathology organizations and consults for general pathology laboratory operations, physician in-office laboratory design and management, as well as CAP preparedness.

Senda Beltaifa, M.D.
Medical Director
Doctor Beltaifa is certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical pathology. She earned her Medical Degree from the “Faculté de Medecine de Sousse, University of Tunisia” and completed her pathology training at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. including a fellowship in Surgical Pathology. A Fellow of the College of American Pathologists (FCAP), Dr. Beltaifa also holds a CAP Certification in Multidisciplinary Breast Pathology. She has worked as a general practitioner overseas and a research scientist in various areas of molecular biology at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda. Doctor Beltaifa has several publications in highly regarded science journals, has presented at various science meetings, and is proficient in three languages. Bringing clinical expertise, combined with outstanding credentials and skills, Dr. Beltaifa centers her work around excellent patient care, continuous improvement to the laboratory and excellent service to our clinicians and patients.
